SKETCH NO. 2
Sketch number two. It's on the same paper as sketch no. one. Yep! it's all changed. It's so easy to work this way. You try something and then remove it all and start again. This gold gesso on hotpress paper is simply amazing. You have to try this. You can find the gesso via internet right here at: http://www.danielsmith.com/Item--i-E-GoldGesso . I use Daniel Smith watercolor pigments all the time. They are so luminescent.
Carla O'Connor is a well accomplished artist. She uses this technique. I have watched her video over and over again trying to better understand the way she works. It's a wonderful DVD where is clearly explain the seven principals of design; Balance, Harmony, Gradation, Variation, Contrast, Dominance and Unity.
If I go back to the time when I was an interior designer and remind myself of the values they taught us that is exactly what we learned. The seven principals not only apply to paint but to good design all together.
I invite you to try this technique because it's actually a great way to let go. Play with shapes, light and shadows you will then discover something amazing ; freedom.
Ok now is time to go back to this sketch and see about creating a fun painting. I purposely position the figure smack in the middle to find solutions to bring the viewers' eyes around the painting and not just to the middle. I'm looking forward to the next step which is all about the seven principal of design.
